AI Providers holds the keys for AI features and decides what pays for translation. Your keys stay on this computer and are sent only to the provider they belong to.

DeepSeek API key

Paste a DeepSeek API key (created at platform.deepseek.com) and save it. It is stored locally. The key unlocks Translate with your own key, AI Clean Up, the vocabulary Suggest button, Write context with AI and AI-assisted Bible reference detection. A key only works once this copy of the app has an activated license; until then Translate uses credits instead, and the screen warns you.

Pay with: your key or credits

If you have a license and a key, Pay with lets you choose what pays for translation: My DeepSeek key (the default) or Credits. The same choice is on the Translate toolbar. Without a licensed key, Translate always uses credits. Every other AI feature needs your own key and a license — credits cannot pay for them. See Translate for how credits work.

Credits account

When this copy of the app is connected to a credits account on aisubtitlestudio.com, the screen shows the account with a Sign out button, which stops this copy using your credits. If you are not connected it points you to Connect on Translate. You can also remove a connected app from the Connected apps page on the website.

More providers

Support for OpenAI, Anthropic and Google Translate is planned and is not available yet.

FAQ

Does AI Subtitle Studio charge for AI features?

Not for your own key — DeepSeek bills your usage directly. Translation credits are optional and bought on the website.

Is my key sent to AI Subtitle Studio?

No. It is stored on your computer and used only to call DeepSeek.

My key is saved but Translate does not use it.

The key needs an activated license. Check Settings → License & Activation, and check Pay with is set to My DeepSeek key.
